we have met before
in my dreams, you see me and i instantly know that you know me. we aren’t strangers this time. the words on the television nearby say “this isn’t the first time”, and that is when it all clicks. you and i. us. we have met before. in another lifetime. perhaps, you were the warrior with vows that held you back. perhaps, i was the woman that slipped by. it’s almost poetic how we found our way to each other again. how do you calculate distance here —in time, lifetimes or an eternity? who cares. now is all we have. tomorrow isn’t promised. i see a small smile on your raspberry lips and almost recall all the poems i never wrote. you walk towards me, it feels like déjà vu. you sit across me. you smell like vanilla and spice. the tattoo on your arm says “what’s meant to be, will be.” you smile and say, “there you are. i’ve been looking for you.” it’s as if the knots inside my chest have been untied. i do not really know the words to describe how it feels, i never quite pin it down. and knowingly, you pull me closer, your fingers running through my hair. you kiss me on the lips and my head starts spinning. my vision blurs, red and yellow lights swirl around my head. it echoes inside my head, “this isn’t the first time”. and it occurs inside my heart, “it isn’t just one or two, but every lifetime.”

“there you are. i’ve been looking for you.”
Wow I love this line.
There are people who seem to have known each other forever, from other lives. Each finishes the other's sentences or the other's smile.
Great piece, I love it!
